Two Year Celebrations with VR Bengaluru & Staycation at The Waverly Hotel

For the love of shopping! Malls are a massive attraction around the world. There is so much to see and do and can take up an entire day. I was ecstatic when VR Bengaluru (Virtuous Retail), invited me to join in the festivities to celebrate their two year anniversary. The two day weekend itinerary, had shopping, parting under the stars and a wonderful staycation included. Yes you read that right a Staycation!!

What makes VR Bengaluru special, it not only has the best premium brands in the industry! But has a luxury boutique hotel situated within the premise, gorgeous sky deck, a roof top lounge, a brewery and state-of-the-art Co-working space.

Did you know VR Bengaluru is called The Black Box? As the entire building is shaped like a box and black in colour. My favorite has to be the “I heart BLR” sign that adds its own charm to this wonderful city.

– Getting There –

The Waverly Hotel & Residences is located right in the middle of some of the top IT Business Parks at Whitefield. Making it ideal for the short and long term stay for business traveller and the likes. The distance from the airport is about 40 kms.

My drive – I live close to MG road, so driving across town was a cinch, that too on a Saturday morning! I reached the venue in under 35mins.

– The Hotel –

My VRTWO celebration commenced early Saturday, with a staycation. A warm welcome and a swift check-in at The Waverly Hotel & Residences. Followed by a quick tour of the residences and the extensive shopping mall and co-working space.

The Waverly Hotel & Residences is a luxury boutique hotel. It has a rich heritage attached to it and this is evident across in its interiors and setting. Colonial meets contemporary is their concept and true to its word, you get transported to an era gone by. Ideal for the business traveler especially for those seeking a touch of luxury and convenience during their stay

The hotel reception is on the 3rd floor, and has this picture perfect living space, that just draws your focus to it. It was a cozy living space adorned with some amazing books, I made sure I spent time here during my stay. Next door is the entrance to the fine dining Italian restaurant Toscano.

– The Room –

There are a total of 54 well-appointed rooms and suites that offer customised luxury, to offer a unique experience. Each of the rooms, have a touch of Victorian era yet contemporary and modern day designs and style add a unique and glorious charm to the place.

I had checked into the Waverly room on the 6th Floor. It is cozy and spacious and exuded a certain freshness. The rooms have first class amenities and are versatile ensuring a comfortable stay. The interiors are up tempo. The dark curtains helped keep the light out ensuring a good nights rest.

Post lunch I was at luck, I got upgraded to the Library Suite for the night. I got bowled over by the size of the suite. This suite is spacious, a separate living area, and work area for the workaholics. The bedroom is tasteful and well decorated. What is more appealing is the large bedroom which is half the size of the actual room. The built in closet and luggage space next to the bathroom is great. My favourite is the his and hers sink. The toilet and the bath area are separate which is a plus point.

There is complimentary wifi, and is accessible throughout the hotel. This room features Executive lounge access. The mini bar is well stocked with beer, wine and soft drinks. The tea/coffee and water gets replenished daily.

Time flew past real quick and soon it was time for lunch. I had ordered in-room dining service, as I had to get ready for the celebrations that evening to “Party under the Stars” at their open roof top lounge and sky deck. As it was Eid, I could think of only one thing and it was Biriyani. I have to admit it was a lavish spread and loved it. The service was prompt and the portion served was just right.

– The Whitefield Arms   –

The hotel has three restaurants. “The Whitefiled Arms” – an all day dining and brewery, that’s more a gastro-pub restaurant, serving buffet style breakfast and brunch. Lunch & Dinner is À la carte but for breakfast they do have this open for choice. My favorite spot has to be the open air seating. The weather in Bangalore is apt.

I had covered this brewery back when it opened two years ago. To know more you can click here to read about it. However, since then, its actually launched its own craft beers and I had an amazing time trying out each of the beers during my stay. I have to say the Wit beer was the best of the lot, refreshing and citrus hints that accompanied any items off their menu.

– Alt –

The second restaurant is “Alt” its evening only roof top lounge bar that serves à la-carte appetizer’s and some lip-smacking pub grub that compliment their signature cocktails. You get a breathtaking view of the city’s sky line and the skies display an enchanting view worth capturing for Instagram.

The celebration at Alt was a grand success for sure, it went on way past midnight, but I retired like cinderella to my suite. The DJ’s were off the hook and it was a psychedelic night indeed with Future Sounds that hosted their gig that night. You can catch my FB live on my wall. The next day, post brunch I went up to Alt as I couldn’t get enough of this place. The sunset glow and the music was just enthralling to be there. I managed to get a good couple of shots done worthy for my Instagram.

– Sky Deck–

The “Sky Deck” with its enormous pool about 20mts was the main attraction and was tempting as ever. It is temperature controlled and perfect to have a swim and then unwind and soak up some sun.  As its the monsoon, I didn’t have much luck day 1 or day 2. The afternoon, was cloudy, the pool glistened and the bright blue hue was just too tempting to resist.

Day 3 post breakfast, I managed to take a dip in the pool and lounge by the pool. I have to say it was only fitting to close my staycation and a gorgeous weekend this way.

– VR Bengaluru  –

My first stop has to be the “I Heart BLR” sign, I have clicked so many images here and still can’t get enough. There was a puppet show, and the art work was on display all over the mall. My two favorite brands F21 and H&M were next on my agenda. The latest in luxury brands that launched recently was Dyson and I had to make a quick stop over to try out the hair dryer. I have heard all the positive hype about it and wanted to try it! I am in awe about how light weight, sleek and powerful this neat hair dryer is. The top celebrities are raving about it and now I need get a hold of it somehow. It was also wonderful to see VR Bengaluru go all out to showcase their support towards ‘Pride Month’.  Shopping here is a delight as the premium brands are all under one roof.

– The Hive –

I had to have a quick mention of this gorgeous co-working space called The Hive. It has state-of-the-art amenities and the entire ambiance is built in such a way with quirky interiors and decor that one feels more like home than at the office. They have two floors, with some of the best companies working out here. Just beautiful…I think I need to shift my base to this venue.

– My Final Thoughts –

The hospitality was exemplary. I had a ball of a time, and I have to thank each of the staff members who were patient with me when I wanted to shoot images of myself across the place. Overall, VR Bengaluru is always buzzing and alive with fairs, art shows not to mention shopping, make it worth spending an entire day. A lovely place for families who want to unwind over the weekend. They have special kids section and play area too. A hearty congratulations on completing two years and I have to thank VR Bengaluru for having me over to be part of their fantastic celebrations. I wish them the very best and look forward to VRThree!
