My Sunny Sunday Brunch Affair @ Mélange

Sunday’s are meant to be just a lazy day, a lay in followed by a brunch followed by a quiet night in! It so happened that I had woken up early last Sunday and had received a WhatsApp invite to join a couple of bloggers for a scrumptious Sunday Brunch @ Mélange, Park Plaza, Park Plaza, Bangalore. I was all game, for it.

Mélange –  this is a 24 hour all day dining restaurant, serves both North Indian, European/Continental and breakfast daily and offers, both à la carte and buffet options with a live cooking stations. My favourite is the tea and coffee counter. For those on the go, can order your latte or tea of choice in its special take away cups. Walking into the long corridor, once you enter Melange is a large open space, with light green coloured interiors, it is very minimalist and contemporary at the same time. It has a lovely outdoor seating as well. We chose to sit indoors, living in Bangalore one knows you cannot trust the weather, one minute is hot to next its pissing rain!

We were welcomed and greeted by Sales Head of the hotel, Siddhanth Verma and Head Chef Narender Singh. Now it isn’t every day, that one gets to dine with one of India’s top and world renowned Chefs. I was humbled to have met such a down to earth person. We spoke of how carefully he hand-picks the ingredients and ensure freshness in each and every meal created at the hotel. And how each food or menu is paired.

<His tip of squeezing fresh lemon onto freshly cut papaya before eating it has just stuck with me now. Papaya has never tasted better! >

Chef Narender Singh, is a member of the prestigious Chaine des Rotisseurs. His resume is very impressive, before heading the Culinary team at Park Plaza, Bengaluru as Director of Culinary, Chef Narender has been associated with a number of International Hospitality brands and cruise liners in the Middle East, India and the US. He has been awarded by the White House, US President, and has hosted dinners for the President of India and for the Historic summit of Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistani President General Parvez Musharraf and number of Heads of State. He was recently awarded the Hotelier India Award 2015 – Chef of the Year.

Drinks – With all the introductions and banter we had to quench our thirst and were served chilled Coconut Mojitos. This was very unusual and had a tropical punch to it. Made of Malibu Rum, mint, and coconut juice infused with coconut pieces, this was very unique and had a distinct flavour to it.

There are a variety of Mocktails & Cocktails on to choose from – The sparkling wine to a chilled pint of beer, or for the health conscious, vegan and other healthy options. I decided to savour my meal with Sparkling Wine. I got served chilled Prosecco the size of tall champagne glass. It was really the cutest thing, and I had two of those in the end. (hic hic)

Amuse Bouche were carefully laid out, from salads to cold cuts to Mediterranean dips and baby pita bread. The bread was fresh and cutting through the crust was hard on the outside and soft on the inside. The Cheese section had Gouda and Mozzarella. One could take a pick from the various crackers or baguettes that were laid out to go with the cheese. I had a healthy portion of the Mediterranean starters, the seasoning was just perfect, the Salsa dip, Avocado dip and Hummus were just so delicious, that I had to go in for a second helping.

Mains –The live Grill section beckoned, I had earlier taken a stroll outside and just was at awe of the preparations and gorgeous smell of the food being cooked outside. The tandoori roti’s and meat being cooked to the Mugalai Parantha sizzling away. I decided to taste the Mugalai Paratha a first for me and I have to say it is a meal on its own. I was full but the taste was so good, I just over ate. We were also served lightly battered prawns, there were so fresh and well cooked. My personal favourite has to be the Chicken Biriyani, each spoon was loaded with intricate spices and burst of flavours along with succulent pieces of chicken.

For the vegetarian, fear not, there is a wide range on offer here, various types of dal cooked in awesome spices to tandoori items like cottage cheese, cauliflower, and the lip smacking; Oven fresh thin crust pizza’s. You are definitely in for a treat here and shan’t be disappointed.

Desserts – I am not a big fan of desserts, however, I loved how all of the sweets and pastry was on display. I had to take some good pics to share. For any person who has sweet tooth this was heaven, you name it and it was there! The Donuts were just too tempting to resist, and that too it was “National Donuts Day”, To complete our meal fit for a king, I was super stuffed, so to just unwind and take a breather, I sipped some Assam Twining’s tea, the trolley was laden with all sorts of flavours to pick from.

Timing of the Brunch is from 12:30pm to 3:30pm and the Prices vary as follows –

INR 1200 + TAX (Non-Alcohol) ; INR 1850 + TAX (Unlimited Alcohol) ; INR 600 + TAX (Kids)

About Park Plaza – The Park Plaza opened in 2011, is located in one of the busiest intersections at outer ring road in Marathahalli, this hotel promises to provide any Leisure or Business travellers a whole new experience. It is conveniently close to the major Business Tech Parks. It is reputed for its 5 fine dining restaurants all under one roof. The restaurants here serve up some gourmet dishes, be it Chinese, to Indian to the best steak house and an all-day dining experience, you can take your pick.

The hotel is about 45 mins away from the airport. The Park Plaza, Bangalore is part of the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group. Situated on the main road, I didn’t quite feel or hear any of the hustle and bustle from the streets. The exquisite greenery and elegant ambience transported me away into another realm and the food kept me sated for my entire duration. Connect with Park Plaza

Over all, it was a gracious afternoon, well spent with good company. I highly recommend the brunch here, it was worth heading to Melange. Last minute plans are always the best, with no expectations, this one just blew me away, with its delicious cuisine on offer, and for what it is worth, it won’t burn a hole in your wallet!
